ABOUT ME
Born on April 14, 1970, I truly am an "Apollo XIII" baby. Here's a picture of me and the guys...
Besides being born during one of the most intense space exploration missions in history, I am also the Gifted Resource Specialist at West Jackson Elementary School (which can be a pretty intense mission as well). I have been serving in education for nearly 20 years and it is what I was created to do. I have had the pleasure of teaching all elementary grades (Pre-K through 5) in three states. In 2015, I officially established what I consider to be a little piece of educational heaven on Earth... the "Genius Gym". This classroom was originally designed for gifted identified students, but has quickly become an environment for any student needing a place to be free to explore, to dream and to confidently face challenge head-on. Now, about this "Year in Space" thing... This latest Genius Gym adventure began in December 2016 when I received an email from Space Center Houston. Originally, I thought is was some kind of spam that would cripple my computer with a virus. After some research, I decided to open the email and learned about the SEEC Year In Space Educator Crew. It sounded like the most amazing and exciting opportunity, so I immediately applied to the program.
About a month later, I heard that I had been selected as one of only 36 K-12 teachers in the nation to be a part of "the crew". My feet have not touched the ground since. I am excited about how this opportunity will help me grow. I am excited about how accepting this challenge will be an example to my students. And lastly, I am excited about how this program will lead to many more engaging learning experiences for my students. |
He who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead; his eyes are closed. |
